All persons with diabetes, newly diagnosed, gestational, or those who have had diabetes for years, need to focus on the present day. Creating goals and measuring successes each day can provide an effective platform for mangement of chronic diseases. Diabetes does not just affect the person with the diagnosis, but also family, friends, and healthcare providers. Diabetes Self Management Education helps clients and their families learn how to live a healthy, happy life while controlling their blood sugar and reducing the complications associated with diabetes. The Diabetes Center of Campbell County Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing ongoing individualized counseling in friendly open atmosphere.
Appointments for education are made based on the needs of the client. An appointment can usually be obtained within a day or two of calling for an appointment. All clients are seen by appointment only, appointments are flexible bas ed on needs.
Individuals and their families can call and request an appointment without a physician referral, but most insurance companies do not pay for services without a physician order. The staff of the Diabetes Center can help obtain an order from the physician. Participants receive information related to self-management skills, nutritional counseling, physical activity skills, learn about medications used in the care and treatment of diabetes as well as the day to day aspects of living with diabetes.
The Certified Diabetes Educators of the Diabetes Center are certified pump trainers and can assist with teaching individuals who are interested in using insulin pumps to optimize their therapy. Our health care team of educators also provides ongoing education to health care professionals on a large variety of topics related to self-management skills and current medical treatments in diabetes. Customized educational programs can be developed on request for any group. Contact the Diabetes Center at 688-2370 or email at lepardam@ccmh.net or more information.
